Silent Hill's Akira Yamaoka presenting at GDC 2010
Silent Hill series composer Akira Yamaoka will be delivering a presentation on Friday, March 12 at the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco. Upon departing Konami, Yamaoka recently joined Grasshopper Manufacture. His talk is entitled "As Long as the Audio is Fun, the Game Will Be Too," and will look back on twenty years in game design.

Wefollow ranks Nobuooo among influential videogame twitter feeds
Wefollow.com, a service that ranks twitter feeds according to category, has listed Nobuooo among 4000 registered videogame-related feeds. The twitter account currently places 55th most influential, between updates on Rock Band DLC and the editor of NowGamer. Gradual improvements to this site's layout are planned for the coming months.

Garry Schyman scores BioShock 2
Earlier in 2009, composer Garry Schyman returned to the underwater world of Rapture for the highly anticipated sequel to 2008's smash videogame hit, BioShock 2. Recorded at Capitol Studios in Hollywood, Schyman's score for BioShock 2 features 50-minutes of orchestral score, performed by some of the best musicians in town.

Hironobu Sakaguchi shares sound equipment tips

Bring amazing 8-Bit artists to Houston's Datapop 2010
Now in it's third installment, 8-bit music celebration Datapop will be held in Austin on March 16 and 17, 2010. In previous years it's featured performances by Bit Shifter, Nullsleep, Anamanaguchi, IAYD, Sievert, Starpause, and others. Pledges are currently being accepted on Kickstarter to fund the chiptune event during SXSW week.

IGF committee awards Glow Artisan, Sword & Sworcery, Lilt Line
Award recipients for the 2010 IGF Mobile competition have been announced. They include Lilt Line for Audio Achievement, Glow Artisan for Best Mobile Game Design, and Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP for Achievement In Art. Independent developers Kyle Gabler (World Of Goo) and Erin Robinson (Puzzle Bots) will host the IGF Awards March 11.

Ridge Racers soundtrack headed to iTunes in March
The website Dot Anime has just posted a new online distribution listing for the soundtrack to PSP title Ridge Racers, as part of Namco Sounds' iTunes series. The 34-track digital release, including music by Shinji Hosoe, Ayaka Saso, Nobuyoshi Sano and many others, is expected around March 10.

Gamma IV sets up Kickstarter appeal to fund GDC Event

Garry Schyman on the orchestral BioShock LP
Recognition of the BioShock orchestral score has led to the inclusion of a heavyweight vinyl LP in the BioShock 2 Special Edition Set. Silent Hill's Yamaoka joins Grasshopper Manufacture
Veteran Silent Hill composer and producer Akira Yamaoka has joined Goichi "Suda51" Suda's Grasshopper Manufacture studio. The news comes from the latest Famitsu magazine, reported by consumer site 1UP. According to the report, Yamaoka will start out composing music, beginning with an "action-horror" project also featuring the support of Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami, with EA Partners backing.

Team Teamwork pulls Vinyl Fantasy VII due to copyright infringement claim
Predictably, Team Teamwork has pulled their Vinyl Fantasy VII album from Bandcamp due to concerns relating to copyright infringement. The album featured direct recordings of the Final Fantasy VII soundtrack and prominent musicians like Jay-Z. Tim Jacques, a graphic designer from the Boston area, received a notice of the claim from Bandcamp and decided to remove the album, having made close to $100 in donations.

Machinarium soundtrack receives vinyl LP
Tomas Dvorak's soundtrack to the adventure game Machinarium by Amanita Design will be receiving a vinyl edition on February 20 from Minority Records. 555 hand-numbered copies are being printed on clear yellow & black vinyl, all signed by the composer. Pre-orders are up on Minority Records.
